Virtual Gallery: Figure Series, 1998 to 2000
Noreen Mallory writes: This set of representations is a selection from a larger series still in progress, focusing on the human figure. Several years ago I rediscovered figure drawing. I decided then never to do rough sketches on newspaper, but substituted instead large, high quality sheets of Arche. This reckless move dictated surprising results. While working on the “expensive” Arche, I proceeded as though it were disposable, usually putting two images (sometimes the same pose from two different angles, sometimes two different poses, sometimes two different models) on a single sheet. I was not however aiming for an exquisite, perfectly finished drawing during the sessions with the model. Later, in the studio, the images were attacked with varying media, where the mysterious interaction between the two images began slowly to merge, always with surprises. I continue in this.
