Virtual Gallery: Heronry Series, 2002

Noreen Mallory writes: These representations, selected from a larger group still in progress, are the result of more than 30 years of observing a heronry near Charleston Lake, Ontario. Daily walks during long summers near our cottage there gradually filled my imagination with images from the intense drama taking place in the swamp with dead trees where herons live. I continue to be moved by the strange beauty of a seemingly decaying setting of stones, mud, water, dead sticks and dead trees that host persevering living creatures through nature's unpredictable cycles, ranging from benevolent tranquility to violent upheaval.
